God is always drawing us closer, blow by blow and bit by bit. And most of the time we do not even know it is happening.

So when you see that combination of calm self-confidence, certitude, and humility all at the same time you have the basis for mysticism in general.

Richard RohrMuch of the Christian religion has largely become โholding onโ instead of letting go. But God, it seems to me, does the holding on (to us!), and we must learn the letting go (of everything else).
Richard RohrOur culture is almost entirely prepared to not just help you create your false self, but to get very identified with it and attached to it. So, without some form of God experience, which teaches you who you are apart from that - we would say in the religious world, who you are "in" God, in the mind and heart of God - there's almost no way to get out of it.
