The soul is in danger when knowledge of doctrine outsteps intimate touch with Jesus.
Oswald ChambersNever make a principle out of your experience. Allow God to be as creative with others as He is with you.
Oswald ChambersWe will suffer a sharp painful disullisionment before we fully surrender. When people really see themselves as the Lord sees them, it is not the terribly offensive sins of the fleshthat shock them, but the awful nature of the pride of their own hearts opposing Jesus Christ. When they see themselves in the light of the Lord, the shame, the horror, and desperate conviction hit home for them.
Oswald ChambersThe Christian Church should not be a secret society of specialists, but a public manifestation of believers in Jesus.
Oswald ChambersThere is no condition of life in which we cannot abide in Jesus. We have to learn to abide in Him wherever we are placed.
Oswald ChambersSanctification costs to the extent of "an intense narrowing of all our interests on earth and an immense broadening of all our interests in God.
Oswald ChambersAre you willing to give and be poured out until you are used up and exhausted-not seeking to be ministered to, but to minister?
Oswald ChambersWe pray pious blether, our will is not in it, and then we say God does not answer; we never asked Him for anything. Asking means that our wills are in what we ask.
Oswald ChambersFaith that is sure of itself is not faith; faith that is sure of God is the only faith there is.
Oswald ChambersTemptations in the life of faith are not accidents; each temptation is part of a plan, a step in the progress of faith.
Oswald ChambersGod places His saints where they will bring the most glory to Him, and we are totally incapable of judging where that may be.
Oswald ChambersAnything that belittles or obliterates the holiness of God by a false view of the love of God, is untrue to the revelation of God given by Jesus Christ.
Oswald ChambersThere are certain things we must not pray about - moods, for instance. Moods never go by praying, moods go by kicking.
Oswald ChambersWe have become so self-centered that we go to God only for something from Him, and not for God Himself.
Oswald ChambersWe must never put our dreams of success as God's purpose for us; His purpose may be exactly the opposite. His purpose is that I depend on HIM and in HIS power NOW. His end is the process. It is the process, not the end, which is glorifying to God....His purpose is for this minute, not for something in the future. We have nothing to do with the 'afterwards' of obedience. If we have a further end in view, we do not pay sufficient attention to the immediate present; if we realize that obedience is the end, then each moment as it comes is precious.
Oswald ChambersIn Christian work our initiative and motivation are too often simply the result of realizing that there is work to be done and that we must do it. Yet that is never the attitude of a spiritually vigorous saint. His aim is to achieve the realization of Jesus Christ in every set of circumstances.
Oswald ChambersBe relentless and hard on yourself if you are in the habit of talking about the experiences you have had. Faith based on experience is not faith; faith based on Godโs revealed truth is the only faith there is.
Oswald ChambersThe resentment of discipline of any kind will warp the whole life away from God's purpose.
Oswald ChambersOur ordinary abilities will never worship God unless they are transformed by the indwelling Son of God.
Oswald ChambersWith Christ, it is not how much we give, but what we do not give that is the real test.
Oswald ChambersWhen we are consciously aware of being used as broken bread and poured out wine, we have yet another level to reach - a level where all awareness of ourselves and what God is doing through us is completely eliminated. A saint is never consciously a saint - a saint is consciously dependent on God.
Oswald ChambersWhen once you realize all that it cost God to forgive you, you will be held as in a vice, constrained by the love of God.
Oswald ChambersAre you learning to say things after listening to God, or are you saying things and trying to make God's word fit in?
Oswald ChambersGod regenerates us and puts us in contact with all his divine resources, but he cannot make us walk according to his will.
Oswald ChambersWherever there is any element of pride or of conceit, Jesus cannot expound a thing. He will take us through the disappointment of a wounded pride of intellect, through disappointment of heart. He will reveal inordinate affections-thin gs over which we never thought He would have to get us alone.
Oswald ChambersIf I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God.
Oswald ChambersThe emphasis to-day is being put on the fact that we have to save men; we have not. We have to exalt the Saviour Who saves men, and then make disciples in His Name.
Oswald ChambersPrayer is not a preparation for work, it IS work. Prayer is not a preparation for the battle, it IS the battle. Prayer is two-fold: definite asking and definite waiting to receive.
Oswald ChambersGod never forces a person's will into surrender, and He never begs. He patiently waits until that person willingly yields to Him. True surrender is a matter of being 'united together [with Jesus] in the likeness of His death' (Romans 6:5) until nothing ever appeals to you that did not appeal to Him. And after you surrender--then what? Your entire life should be characterized by an eagerness to maintain unbroken fellowship and oneness with God.
Oswald ChambersGodโs training is for now, not presently. His purpose is for this minute, not for something in the future. we have nothing to do with the afterwards of obedience; we can get it wrong when we think of the afterwards. what men call training and preparation, God calls the endโฆ if we realize that obedience is the end, then each moment is precious.
Oswald ChambersBeware of the inclination to dictate to God what consequences you would allow as a condition of your obedience to Him.
Oswald ChambersWe actually slander and dishonor God by our very eagerness to serve Him without knowing Him.
Oswald ChambersIf we are in Christ the whole basis of our goings is God, not conceptions of God, not ideas of God, but God Himself. We do not need any more ideas about God, the world is full of ideas about God, they are all worthless, because the ideas of God in anyoneโs head are of no more use than our own ideas. What we need is a real God, not more ideas about Him.
