China is at a different stage of development, human rights are violated here much more often. And still, we see improvements even here.

I often feel more disgust than pride about this kind of success. So there's no regret whatsoever.

Censorship is saying: "I'm the one who says the last sentence. Whatever you say, the conclusion is mine." But the internet is like a tree that is growing. The people will always have the last word – even if someone has a very weak, quiet voice. Such power will collapse because of a whisper.

I don't belong to a working system. They only select people if you belong to one so you can be controlled.

Every day I'm learning something new from the practice. It's very rewarding.

I curated this show [Shanghai Biennale ], I was by no means trying to shock people or be controversial.

In an environment without public platform nor protection, the individual is the most powerful and most responsible.
