If you do all the talking when you pray, how will you ever hear God's answers?

I cannot recall, in any of my reading, a single instance of a prophet who applied for the job.

Faith is not a once-done act, but a continuous gaze of the heart at the Triune God. Believing, then, is directing the hearts' attention to Jesus. It is lifting the mind to 'behold the Lamb of God,' and never ceasing that beholding for the rest of our lives.

To pray with your fists closed means you're hanging onto something. Let it go. Open your hands to God.

What has the church gained if it is popular but there is no conviction, no repentance, no power?

Nothing bothers the devil more than a Christian delighting in God’s presence.

Let any man turn to God in earnest, let him begin to exercise himself unto godliness, let him seek to develop his powers of spiritual receptivity by trust and obedience and humility, and the results will exceed anything he may have hoped in his leaner and weaker days.
