As we come to the Bible, we can come with the holy anticipation of actually meeting with God.

Such words as amen, hallelujah, glory and others of like sacred association are repeated endlessly and meaninglessly in the apparent belief that they have in them some strange power for good. This can be no more than high-grade magic. It will pay us to search our own hearts thoroughly to discover just why we use these words.

The goodness of God is infinitely more wonderful than we will ever be able to comprehend.

After my study of today's church, my conclusion is that the church is politely bored with God.

I have found God to be cordial and generous and in every way easy to live with.

The trouble is that the whole 'accept Christ' attitude is likely to be wrong. It shows Christ applying to us rather than us to him. It makes him stand hat-in-hand awaiting our verdict on him, instead of our kneeling with troubled hearts awaiting his verdict on us. It may even permit us to accept Christ by an impulse of mind or emotions, painlessly, at no loss to our ego and no inconvenience to our usual way of life.

What is wisdom? It is the skill to achieve the perfect means by the perfect ends
