We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience. We are therefore out of touch with reality.

What we have to discover is that there is no safety, that seeking is painful, and that when we imagine that we have found it, we don’t like it.

To the Taoist mentality, the aimless, empty life does not suggest anything depressing. On the contrary, it suggests the freedom of clouds and mountain streams, wandering nowhere, of flowers in impenetrable canyons, beautiful for no one to see, and of the ocean surf forever washing the sand, to no end.

Parts exist only for purposes of figuring and describing, and as we figure the world out we become confused if we do not remember this all the time.
