I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being.

I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.

My pacifism is an instinctive feeling, a feeling that possesses me because the murder of men is disgusting. My attitude is not derived from any intellectual theory but is based on my deepest antipathy to every kind of cruelty and hatred.

We must learn the difficult lesson that the future of Mankind will only be tolerable when our course, in world affairs as in others, is based upon justice and law rather than the threat of naked power.

If someone feels that he has never made a mistake in his life, it only means that he has never tried anything new in his life.

The only mistake in life is the lesson not learned.
