Is it our task to force the biblical doctrine of God to answer to modern culture, or (is it our task) to address modern culture with the biblical doctrine of God? If modern culture-or any culture-establishes the baseline for the doctrine of God, such a doctrine will certainly bear little resemblance to the God of the Bible.

In the end, an impatience with the Word of God can be explained only by an impatience with God. We all, both individually and congregationally, neglect God's Word to our own ruin.

Everyone is in a hurry. The persons whom I lead in worship, among whom I counsel, visit, pray, preach, and teach, want shortcuts. They want me to help them fill in the form that will get them instant credit (in eternity). They are impatient for results. They have adopted the lifestyle of a tourist and only want the high points. . . . The Christian life cannot mature under such conditions and in such ways.

The therapeutic concerns of the culture too often set the agenda for evangelical preaching.

This generation must get deadly serious about the problem of Biblical illiteracy.

You cannot coherently affirm the Christian-truth claim and the dominant model of evolutionary theory at the same time.

Hang on to this with your life: "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
