We have great respect for Canada and Britain as well, and if they start shifting policies with regards to marijuana, it simply increases the rumblings in this country that we ought to re-examine our policy.

We have a lot of things to work through. But the American people need to have confidence that we`re going to change things, but we`re going to move us in to a direction of more decisions and more choices, and not a diminishing of responsibility and care that people are really relied upon.

I believe it is our values and our ideals that ultimately bind us together as a nation. But it is the English language which serves as the means by which we can communicate these values to those around us. Our common language, English, is that which unites us.
