I want to know that I've accomplished something. I want to feel that it had some meaning. At the last summing up, I want to be sure it wasn't all-for nothing.

Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.

And you cringe and you crawl and you beg and you accept them--just so they'll let you keep it. And look at whom you come to accept.

It's a rare gift, you know, to feel reverence for your own life and to want the best, the greatest, the highest possible, here, now, for your very own.
