If you look at countries like South Africa, where you had a black majority, there have been efforts to tax and help that black majority, but it hasn't come in the form of a formal reparations program.

And those who didn't vote for him have to recognize that that's how democracy works. That's how this system operates.

We are not a nation that says 'don't ask, don't tell.' We are a nation that says 'out of many, we are one.'

We want our children to live in an America that isn't burdened by debt, that isn't weakened by inequality, that isn't threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet.

I think that at a certain stage those early ambitions burn away, partly because you achieve something, you get something done, you get some notoriety. And then the particularities of who you are and what your deepest commitments are begin expressing themselves. You're not just chasing the idea of "me" being important, but you, rather, are chasing a particular passion.

It's time to put country ahead of party. It's time to put the next generation ahead of the next election.
