America's not just [about] looking out for yourself, it's not just about greed, it's not just about trying to climb to the very top and keep everybody else down. ... Hard work, that's a value. Looking out for one another, that's a value. The idea that we're all in it together and [that] I'm my brother's keeper and [my] sister's keeper, that's a value.

Our government shouldn't make promises we cannot keep, but we must keep the promises we've already made.

I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that's not what America's about. Usually, our constitutions expand liberties, they don't contract them.

Angela Merkel has been an extraordinary partner for me and for the United States throughout my presidency.

I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money.

This is a core principle of my presidency - if you threaten America, you will find no safe haven.

I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case, full stop, period.
