At a young age, I became very aware that not only did my family have to struggle but that families around the country were struggling as well. Also, being Jewish and having lost relatives in the Holocaust, I've always been aware of the meaning of prejudice. These are things that have remained with me throughout my political career.

We have got to make sure that every qualified American in this country who wants to go to college can go to college -- regardless of income.

The only way change happens is when people become more significantly involved in the political process.

We have to develop a strong economic message which says every American is entitled to health care through a national health care program. And we're not going to allow these large corporations to push through trade agreements which allow them to throw Americans out on the street and run to China.

Wall Street has enormous power over the Republican Party, enormous power over the Democratic Party.

I don't represent large corporations and I don't want their money.

Let's ask why it is that we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs, and your medicine can be doubled tomorrow, and there's nothing that the government can do to stop it.
