The great mass of people judge well of things, for they are in natural ignorance, which is man's true state.

What reason have atheists for saying that we cannot rise again? That what has never been, should be, or that what has been, should be again? Is it more difficult to come into being than to return to it.

The Stoics say, "Retire within yourselves; it is there you will find your rest." And that is not true. Others say, "Go out of yourselves; seek happiness in amusement." And this is not true. Illness comes. Happiness is neither without us nor within us. It is in God, both without us and within us.

To find recreation in amusement is not happiness.

Those who are accustomed to judge by feeling do not understand the process of reasoning, because they want to comprehend at a glance and are not used to seeking for first principles. Those, on the other hand, who are accustomed to reason from first principles do not understand matters of feeling at all, because they look for first principles and are unable to comprehend at a glance.

The Church limits her sacramental services to the faithful. Christ gave Himself upon the cross a ransom for all.

All err the more dangerously because each follows a truth. Their mistake lies not in following a falsehood but in not following another truth.
