The central miracle asserted by Christians is the incarnation. They say that God became man.

The first fact in the history of Christendom is a number of people who say they have seen the Resurrection.

And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history—money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery—the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.

It takes all sorts to make a world; or a church. This may be even truer of a church. If grace perfects nature it must expand all our natures into the full richness of the diversity which God intended when He made them, and Heaven will display far more variety than Hell.

God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pains.

Besides being complicated, reality, in my experience, is usually odd. It is not neat, not obvious, not what you expect.

Joy is the serious business of heaven.
