I would prefer to battle the 'I'm special' feeling not by the thought, 'I'm no more special than anyone else,' by by the feeling, 'Everyone is as special as me.'

And how could we endure to live and let time pass if we were always crying for one day or one year to come back--if we did not know that every day in a life fills the whole life with expectation and memory and that these are that day?

For prayer is request. The essence of request, as distinct from compulsion, is that it may or may not be granted.

The distinction between pretending you are better than you are and beginning to be better in reality is finer than moral sleuth hounds conceive.
