The more pride we have, the more other people’s pride irritates us

Could one start a Stagnation Party-which at General Elections would boast that during its term of office no event of the least importance had taken place?

The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one's 'own,' or 'real' life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one's real life -- the life God is sending one day by day.

A God. The God. One word can make all the difference in the world.

You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down.

The Scotch catechism says that man's chief end is 'to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.' But we shall then know that these are the same thing. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.

That thing is Freedom: the gift whereby ye most resemble your Maker and are yourselves part of eternal reality.
