Will began to straighten up, to turn away from the bed. And as he did, he felt something wrap tightly around his wrist. He glanced down and saw Jemโs hand braceleting his own. For a moment he was too shocked to do anything but stare. โI am not dead yet, Will,โ Jem said in a soft voice, thin but as strong as wire. โWhat did Magnus mean by asking you if I knew you were in love with Tessa?
Cassandra ClareCharlotte, who had sagged back in her chair, her eyes half-closed, said, โWill, I have already been up all night copying down the relevant parts. Much of it wasโโ โGibberish?โ Jem suggested. โPornographic?โ said Will at the same time. โCould be both,โ said Will. โHavenโt you ever heard of pornographic gibberish before?
Cassandra ClareYou speak of sacrifice, but it is not my sacrifice I offer. It is yours I ask of you," he went on. "I can offer you my life, but it is a short life; I can offer you my heart, though I have no idea how many more beats it shall sustain. But I love you enough to hope that you will not care that I am being selfish in trying to make the rest of my life--whatever its length--happy, by spending it with you. I want to be married to you, Tessa. I want it more than I have ever wanted anything else in my life.
Cassandra ClareI am nothing if not gracious," Will said. His eyes searched Jem's face, that face as familiar to him as his own. "And determined. You will not leave me. Not while I live.
Cassandra ClareHe's not here." "Not here like he just popped around the corner to the bodega for a six-pack of Diet Coke and a box of Krispy Kremes, or not here like.
Cassandra ClareWrite what you want to read. So many people think they need to write a particular kind of book, or imitate a successful style, in order to be published. I've known people who felt they had to model their book on existing blockbusters, or write in a genre that's supposed to be "hot right now" in order to get agents and publishers interested. But if you're writing in a genre you don't like, or modeling yourself on a book you don't respect, it'll show through. You're your first, most important reader, so write the book that reader really wants to read.
