I love it here in Boston and I love studying medicine. But itโs not home. Dublin is home. Being back with you felt like home. I miss my best friend. Iโve met some great guys here, but I didnโt grow up with any of them playing cops and robbers in my back garden. I donโt feel like they are real friends. I havenโt kicked them in the shins, stayed up all night on Santa watch with them, hung from trees pretending to be monkeys, played hotel, or laughed my heart out as their stomachs were pumped. Itโs kind of hard to beat that.
Cecelia AhernElizabethโs hands flew to her mouth; tears filled her eyes with happiness as she realized he was fulfilling yet another of her and her motherโs intended activities. โWhy are you fulfilling all of my motherโs dreams?โ she asked, studying his face and searching for answers. โSo you donโt run away like she did in search of them,โ he replied, taking her hand. โCome on, join in!โ he said, leaping around.
Cecelia AhernI believe in the magic of books. I believe that during certain periods in our lives we are drawn to particular books--whether it's strolling down the aisles of a bookshop with no idea whatsoever of what it is that we want to read and suddenly finding the most perfect, most wonderfully suitable book staring us right in the face. Unblinking. Or a chance meeting with a stranger or friend who recommends a book we would never ordinarily reach for. Books have the ability to find their own way into our lives.
