A man is lucky if he is the first love of a woman. A woman is lucky if she is the last love of a man.

So the case stands, and under all the passion of the parties and the cries of battle lie the two chief moving causes of the struggle. Union means so many millions a year lost to the South; secession means the loss of the same millions to the North.
