Nothing will so enlarge the intellect, nothing so magnify the whole soul of man, as a devout, earnest, continued, investigation of the great subject of the Deity. The most excellent study for expanding the soul is the science of Christ and Him crucified and the knowledge of the Godhead in the glorious Trinity.

Growing a beard is a habit most natural, Scriptural, manly and beneficial.

Earnestness is good; it means business. But fanaticism overdoes, and is consequently reactionary.

There is a stone that is to be rolled away--your bad and evil habits--and when that stone is taken away, a still small voice will not do for you; it must be the loud crashing voice, like the voice of the Lord which breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.

I know of nothing which I would choose to have as the subject of my ambition for life than to be kept faithful to my God till death.
