As the salt flavors every drop in the Atlantic, so does sin affect every atom of our nature. It is so sadly there, so abundantly there, that if you cannot detect it, you are deceived.

A well marked Bible is the sign of a well-fed soul.

A world where everything was easy would be a nursery for babies, but not at all a fit place for men.

When the pangs shoot through our body, and ghastly death appears in view, people see the patience of the dying Christian. Our infirmities become the black velvet on which the diamond of God's love glitters all the more brightly. Thank God I can suffer ! Thank God I can be made the object of shame and contempt, for in this way God shall be glorified.

Suffering is better than sinning. There is more evil in a drop of sin than in an ocean of affliction. Better, burn for Christ, than turn from Christ.

Out of every difficulty Omnipotence can bring us, only let us in childlike confidence cast our burden upon the Lord.

There is no form of sinfulness to which you are addicted which Christ cannot remove.
