The practical effect of Christianity is happiness, therefore let it be spread abroad everywhere!

If we cannot believe God when circumstances seem be against us, we do not believe Him at all.

The great reason why we have so little good preaching is that we have so little piety. To be eloquent one must be in earnest; he must not only act as if he were in earnest, or try to be in earnest, but be in earnest.

He is not humanity deified. He is not Godhead humanized. He is God. He is man. He is all that God is, and all that man is as God created Him.

We know so little about the future that to worry about it would be the height of foolishness.

A little thorn may cause much suffering. A little cloud may hide the sun. Little foxes spoil the vines; and little sins do mischief to the tender heart. These little sins burrow in the soul, and make it so full of that which is hateful to Christ, that he will hold no comfortable fellowship and communion with us. A great sin cannot destroy a Christian, but a little sin can make him miserable.

I believe that in public worship we should do well to be bound by no human rules, and constrained by no stereotyped order.
