Stars may be seen from the bottom of a deep well, when they cannot be discerned from the top of a mountain. So are many things learned in adversity which the prosperous man [the man at ease] dreams not of.

If you rest on the finished work of Jesus you have already the best evidence of your salvation in the world; you have God's word for it; what more is needed?

Prayer is the forerunner of mercy. Turn to sacred history, and you will find that scarecely ever did a great mercy come to this world unheralded by supplication.

Home is the grandest of all institutions.
