Great hearts can only be made by great troubles. The spade of trouble digs the reservoir of comfort deeper, and makes more room for consolation.

Song of God and Son of Man, there He hangs, bearing pains unutterable, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God.

It does not spoil your happiness to confess your sin. The unhappiness is in not making the confession.

The worst thing thou has to fear is the treachery of thine own heart.

Poor human nature cannot bear such strains as heavenly triumphs bring to it; there must come a reaction. Excess of joy or excitement must be paid for by subsequent depressions. While the trial lasts, the strength is equal to the emergency; but when it is over, natural weakness claims the right to show itself.

God could not have given this promise, except from love and grace; therefore it is quite certain his Word will be fulfilled.

To pretend to trust Christ to save you from sin while you are still determined to continue in it is making a mockery of Christ.
