As a kid growing up in a lower-class neighbourhood, where everyone around me was listening to hip hop, what was I doing listening to new wave, and why was that my favourite music? I don't know why, but it just spoke to me.
Chino MorenoAs Korn go on, it's the same things - bad childhoods and mean moms. It gets too old after a while. How old is Jonathan? Thirty? How long has it been since he lived with his parents?
Chino MorenoDeftones is always my main focus. Iโve been doing it the longest and itโs definitely a priority. I think of these as projects. Itโs not like Iโm unfulfilled with a need to find another outlet. I look at it as making music with my friends, and Iโm blessed that theyโre great musicians.
Chino MorenoI think a lot of bands are influenced by religious symbolism and not even necessarily Christianity or Catholicism.
Chino MorenoIt's fun, working with different people, everybody works differently. When I have time off from music, I want to make other music. That's what I do, that's what's fun, that's what makes me happy.
Chino MorenoPeople ask me if I'm influenced by British music, and I suppose I grew up listening to mostly British music - from new wave stuff through to heavy metal. Like, when I got into metal, it was Black Sabbath. I never really got into a lot of American rock. I appreciate some of it, but not much! Most of the great new wave music was coming out of Britain, and Germany. So maybe those influences have made their way into my music, and perhaps that's why I have this connection with people in Europe. But maybe it's something cosmic.
