God involves us in his missions not because He needs us, but because He loves us. And in His mercy He has invited us to be involved in His sovereign design for the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth.
David PlattGod stands ready to allocate his power to all who are radically dependent on Him and radically devoted to making much of Him.
David PlattDo you believe that Jesus is worth abandoning everything for? Do you believe him enough to obey him and to follow him wherever he leads, even when the crowds in our culture - maybe even our churches - turn the other way?
David PlattAs I looked at material and spiritual poverty in the world around me, including approximately 2 billion people who haven't even heard the gospel, I knew that I needed to make some major changes in my life.
David PlattThe gospel confronts us with the hopelessness of our sinful condition. But we don't like what we see of ourselves in the gospel, so we shrink back from it.
David PlattDisciple making also involves teaching people to obey all that Christ has commanded us. Now some might say, "Isn't that what preachers are supposed to do?" And in one sense, the answer to this question is yes. God has clearly called and gifted some people in the church to teach his Word formally. At the same time, he has commanded every follower of Jesus to teach his Word relationally.
David PlattShould it concern us that the bible never calls us to ask Jesus into our hearts. Should it concern us that the bible never mentions such a superstitious sinners prayer and yet that is exactly what we have sold to so many as salvation.
David PlattWhy not begin operating under the idea that God has given us excess, not so we could have more, but so we could give more?
David PlattI want to move from what we let go of to whom we hold on to. I want to explore not just the gravity of what we forsake in this world, but also the greatness of the one we follow in this world.
David PlattGod uses sorrowful tragedy to set the stage for surprising triumph-whether in this life or the life to come.
David PlattWhen you come to Jesus, you don't come to get health, wealth and prosperity. You come to Jesus to get Jesus
David PlattDo you realize the weight of the one who has invited us to follow him? He is worthy of more than church attendance and casual association; he is worthy of total abandonment and supreme adoration.
David PlattWe act, though, not under a utopian illusion that you or I or anyone or everyone together can rid this world of pain and suffering. That responsibility belongs to the resurrected Christ, and he will do it when he returns. But until that day, we do with an undivided heart whatever God calls us to do.
David PlattJesus is not some puny religious teacher begging for an invitation from anyone. He is the all-sovereign Lord who deserves submission from everyone.
David Platt[...]there is no injustice in God. The injustice lies in Christians who possess the gospel and refuse to give their lives to making it known among those who haven't heard.
David PlattIf you claim to be a follower of Christ, I encourage you to consider your present commitment to a local church.
David PlattThe price is certainly high for people who donโt know Christ and who live in a world where Christians shrink back from self-denying faith and settle into self-indulging faith. While Christians choose to spend their lives fulfilling the American dream instead of giving their lives to proclaiming the kingdom of God, literally billions in need of the Gospel remain in the dark
David PlattJesus is no longer one to be accepted or invited in but one who is infinitely worthy of our immediate and total surrender.
David PlattUnreached peoples are unreached for a reason. They're hard, difficult, and dangerous to reach. All the easy ones are taken
David PlattMy prayer is that people will see that following Jesus costs you everything you are and everything you have. And my prayer is that people will see that Jesus is worth it.
David PlattThe resources of heaven are ready and waiting for the people of God who desire to make much of him in this world
David PlattIf we are going to accomplish the global purpose of God, it will not be primarily through giving our money, as important as that is. It will happen primarily through giving ourselvs. This is what the gospel represents and this is what the gospel requires.
David PlattThe more Christ fulfills the cravings of our souls, the more he changes our taste capacities from the inside out. The more we walk with him, the more we want him. The more we taste of him, the more we enjoy him. And this transforms how we live and what we live for.
David PlattSuddenly contemporary Christianity sales pitches don't seem adequate anymore. Ask Jesus to come into your heart. Invite Jesus to come into your life. Pray this prayer, sign this card, walk down this aisle, and accept Jesus as your personal Savior. . . We have taken the infinitely glorious Son of God, who endured the infinitely terrible wrath of God and who now reigns as the infinitely worthy Lord of all, and we have reduced him to a poor, puny Savior who is just begging for us to accept him. Accept him? Do we really think Jesus needs our acceptance? Don't we need him?
David PlattWe donโt go to Scripture for permission to do what we think is best, but for direction to do what He says is best.
David PlattThis extremely shocking and utterly revolutionary call is the essence of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus: we are not called to simply believe certain points or observe certain practices, but ultimately to cling to the person of Christ as life itself.
David PlattWe go wherever God leads whenever God moves us...because we love His glory more than we love our lives.
David PlattWhen we realize we have the responsibility to teach the word, it changes everything about how we hear the Word.
David PlattSurely the gospel evokes unconditional surrender of all that we are and all that we have to all that He is.
David PlattGod blesses his people with extravagant grace so they might extend his extravagant glory to all peoples on the earth
David PlattThe bible informs us, compels us to care for the poor, to love the outcast, to serve the needy.
David PlattThe Word of God and the Spirit of God are enough for the people of God to enjoy and spread the worship of God.
David PlattInstead of trying to conquer sin by working hard to change our actions, we can conquer sin by trusting Christ to change our affections.
David PlattOn popular issues like poverty and slavery, where Christians are likely to be applauded for our social action, we are quick to stand up and speak out. Yet on controversial issues like homosexuality and abortion, where Christians are likely to be criticized for our involvement, we are content to sit down and stay quiet.
David PlattSome people think that if they will do certain things, they will somehow earn the favor of God, but this misses the whole point of Christianity and ironically devolves into a me-centered approach.
David PlattAnyone wanting to proclaim the glory of Christ to the ends of the earth must consider not only how to declare the gospel verbally but also how to demonstrate the gospel visibly in a world where so many are urgently hungry. If I am going to address urgent spriitual need by sharing the gospel of Christ or building up the body of Christ around the world, then I cannot overlook dire physical need in the process.
