Where a people prays, there is the church; and where the church is; there is never loneliness.
Dietrich BonhoefferBeing free means "being free for the other," because the other has bound me to him. Only in relationship with the other am I free
Dietrich BonhoefferThe Christian must treat his enemy as a brother, and requite his hostility with love. His behavior must be determined not by the way others treat him, but by the treatment he himself receives from Jesus; it has only one source, and that is the will of Jesus.
Dietrich BonhoefferThe church is only the church when it exists for others. To make a start, it should give away all its property to those in need. The clergy must live solely on the free-will offerings of their congregations, or possibly engage in some secular calling. The church must share in the secular problems of ordinary human life, not dominating, but helping and serving. It must tell men of every calling what it means to live in Christ, to exist for others.
