A nation's hope of lasting peace cannot be firmly based upon any race in armaments but rather upon just relations and honest understanding with all other nations.

There can be no peace without law.

No treaty or international agreement can contravene the Constitution.

The free world must not prove itself worthy of its own past.

I believe we must be strong militarily, but beyond a certain point military strength can become a national weakness.

In this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war.

To be true to one's own freedom is, in essence, to honor and respect the freedom of all others.
