An appearance of delicacy, and even fragility, is almost essential to beauty.

Good company, lively conversation, and the endearments of friendship fill the mind with great pleasure.

But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.
