Be committed to whatever you're doing. That's something I've taken to heart and tried to do with whatever activities I take up.
Eli ManningCoaches have the worst hours in the world. They go home maybe twice a week. They're sleeping in their office. They're watching film. It's a brutal, brutal job and that's why I respect them so much.
Eli ManningStrike one is a big, big pitch-you can do a lot after you get strike one, no matter how you get it.
Eli ManningI've always tried to be the person who says things no one else wants to say. I've always kept it in house, as opposed to going to the papers.
Eli ManningWhen I came to Ole Miss, everyone expected me to bring the program back to its glory days. I didn't want to put that kind of pressure on myself.
Eli ManningOpportunities are running out, and this is the do-or-die situation when the ball is in your hands, and you can either help your team to victory or not. And so I want to be in those situations. I think about them, and almost look forward to them.
Eli ManningI try to stay level-headed and it's always the way I've been. Sometimes your personality out in the real world, you want to take that into your sport because that's where you feel comfortable. You never want to try to do something that's not you or you don't feel comfortable doing. That's where you get in trouble. It's the only way I've played sports and done things. I'm low-key, but I'm very competitive and hate to lose.
Eli ManningI'm not satisfied. I'm still enjoying this. I still feel like I'm in the best part of my career and I can play at a high level. This is what I love to do: playing football and winning games.
Eli ManningIt's all about having fun. Play hard and fair, don't hurt anybody. Feel good about what you're doing and how you're doing it.
Eli ManningThe pitch count situatio-it doesn't matter if you throw 120 or 80, whatever. It's the quality of pitches that you throw.
Eli ManningI've gotten to watch a lot of football games. Growing up, watching sports, watching people compete, whether it's my brothers or teammates. I grew up observing and taking it all in. It's kind of my attitude.
Eli ManningOne thing I've learned about the NBA is that you can have one good year, but you've always got to be progressing and working and making yourself better.
Eli ManningI literally and truly don't care how many points I score. I get far more satisfaction out of doing the other things that make us winners.
Eli ManningI think big-that's what my mother taught me. If you think small and accomplish it, what does it mean? Who cares? To me the sky's the limit, and I'm going to try and get there.
Eli ManningI want to stand out. After my career is over, I want people to say, 'He was different.' It's not to be outrageous. I just want people to know that when I played ball, I was having fun.
Eli ManningHey, hitting is hard-if you make good pitches that aren't elevated in the zone, you're going to have success.
Eli ManningI'm old school. I'm locked into my own little circle. If you cross the line, you're going to get bit. They'll always know where I'm coming from and once we hit the floor, there's no doubt.
Eli ManningI try to be a smart quarterback. I'm not the fastest or the best athlete, but if I can know what the defense is doing and stick to my job and what needs to be done I can make the plays needed to move the ball and score.
Eli ManningI go crazy trying to energize people, 'cause that's what I am. I'm a battery. If you're down, you can plug into me and get charged up.
Eli ManningI think the guys that are successful might be a little more relaxed and able to deal with the distractions.
Eli ManningIf you think individual, that's how you're going to come off. I've always given 'team' a chance.
Eli ManningI'll bring what I bring to the tale, but it's good to know you have two guys with the experience and know-how in big games.
Eli ManningMy main focus off the court is to be humble. My mom always told me to be a presentable young man. I'm not going to pretend to be something that I'm not and act a certain way for people. I plan on being myself. I like having a good time, but I still carry myself in an orderly fashion.
Eli ManningI don't play basketball for the money. I don't play it for the crowd. When I didn't have a friend, when I was lonely, I always knew I could grab that orange pill and go hoop. I could go and dunk on somebody. If things weren't going right, I could make a basket and feel better.
Eli ManningObviously, you want to teach your child between right and wrong, respect and being kind to others, whether it's their sisters or parents. You try to teach them by example, talk to them and explain certain situations. But there's also a time to put them in time out or let them know they've made a mistake and try to learn from it.
Eli ManningI went through that phase where I wanted to almost be different than my brother. Just kind of argued a little louder or if there was a curfew, I always came in a little later than I was supposed to. If it was set for 12, I would come in at 12:45. I would test the limits a little. There was no real reason and I grew out of it, eventually.
Eli ManningI'm going to go out and be the best quarterback I can be and get the most out of my potential.
