A lot of times I feel like people come up to me because they think I'm like my character in Easy A, or because they've seen me in interviews, but really what they're a fan of is a movie or a character.
Emma StoneMy great hope for us as young women is to start being kinder to ourselves so that we can be kinder to each other. To stop shaming ourselves and other people for things we don't know the full story on - whether someone is too fat, too skinny, too short, too tall, too loud, too quiet, too anything. There's a sense that we're all โtooโ something, and we're all not enough.
Emma StoneI've been looking at that in myself lately. Often, joking for me is a way of diffusing the awkwardness of a situation, so it's kind of exhilarating to be a part of projects where there's nothing funny or lighthearted.
Emma StoneI think Skeeter even says that when she calls up Miss Stein. "No one asked Mammy how she feels in Gone With The Wind." Mammy wasn't really much of a fleshed-out character. She was just kind of there to take care of Miss Scarlett.
Emma StoneItโs such a fun job, and it can be silly and light and about making people laugh. I think I was doing it a disservice by thinking itโs not something ultimately important. I always was saying, โIโm not saving lives; Iโm not a brain surgeon.โ And thatโs trueโIโm not saving anyone from any life-threatening illnesses. But I get to tell stories, and thatโs a pretty important task.
