I could never be Charlie Chaplin. But the films that were made by people like him, or Gene Wilder, or John Candy, the people that inspired me so much were the people that were able to combine humor with heartbreak so beautifully and fluidly. Those films I think were what inspired me to want to come to L.A. and audition for movies.
Emma StoneI find more and more, as time goes on, these people I meet, they are starting to become these people I look up to more and more. Like Julianne Moore, also, on Crazy Stupid Love: kids, husband, priorities straight. Or Woody Harrelson's like that. Those are the people I really admire, and that's success to me: being able to balance that life and not buy into it. And do the work that you want to do and makes you happy, because you're lucky enough to do it. But if I never got a role again, I've got this incredible life.
Emma StoneI always loved acting and improv and sketch comedy and theater, which I did at a local youth theater.
Emma StoneSometimes you're not like the person you'd want to hang out with. Would I really want to hang out with me full time? No, you've gotta find people who balance you out.
Emma StoneI'm actively working hard on learning to appreciate yourself no matter what. If what someone else says can easily derail you, it means your sense of self isn't that firmly established in the first place. It's an inside job. You're beautiful and worthy and totally unique. People insult each other based on their own insecurities - even though it may feel personal, it really never is. Really. Seriously.
Emma StoneItโs such a fun job, and it can be silly and light and about making people laugh. I think I was doing it a disservice by thinking itโs not something ultimately important. I always was saying, โIโm not saving lives; Iโm not a brain surgeon.โ And thatโs trueโIโm not saving anyone from any life-threatening illnesses. But I get to tell stories, and thatโs a pretty important task.
