Action can give us the feeling of being useful, but only words can give us a sense of weight and purpose.

They considered themselves cheated and maligned when made to shoulder responsibility for obeying orders. Had they not joined the Nazi movement in order to be free from responsibility?

It is not so much the example of others we imitate as the reflection of ourselves in their eyes and the echo of ourselves in their words.

The fear of becoming a 'has-been' keeps some people from becoming anything.

Man is eminently a storyteller. His search for a purpose, a cause, an ideal, a mission and the like is largely a search for a plot and a pattern in the development of his life story - a story that is basically without meaning or pattern.
