Animals often strike us as passionate machines.

He kindles the vision of a breath-taking future so as to justify the sacrifice of a transitory present. He stages a world of make-believe so indispensable for the realization of self-sacrifice and united action.

It still holds true that man is most uniquely human when he turns obstacles into opportunities.

It is doubtful whether the oppressed ever fight for freedom. They fight for pride and power-power to oppress others.

There is in most passions a shrinking away from ourselves. The passionate pursuer has all the earmarks of a fugitive.
