Democracy, the practice of self-government, is a covenant among free men to respect the rights and liberties of their fellows.

Freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights or keep them.

We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American Eagle in order to feather their own nests.

The future lies with those wise political leaders who realize that the great public is interested more in government than in politics.

The first theory is that if we make the rich richer, somehow they will let a part of their prosperity trickle down to the rest of us. The second theory was the theory that if we make the average of mankind comfortable and secure, their prosperity will rise upward through the ranks.

I call for effort, courage, sacrifice, devotion. Granting the love of freedom, all of these are possible. And the love of freedom is still fierce and steady in the nation today. June 10, 1940

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph, so help us God.
