Astrology presupposes that the heavenly bodies are regulated in their movements in harmony with the destiny of mortals: the moral man presupposes that that which concerns himself most nearly must also be the heart and soul of things.

A small revenge is more human than no revenge at all.

What is the task of higher education? To make a man into a machine. What are the means employed? He is taught how to suffer being bored.

In art the end does not sanctify the means: but sacred means employed here can sanctify the end.

What is bad? -Everything that arises from weakness.

I overcame myself, the sufferer; I carried my own ashes to the mountains; I invented a brighter flame for myself.
