Erotic movies - they don't even make it anymore. Even the erotic magazines don't really look like the ones you could find in the '70s. You have much more extreme iconography of what is sexy. It's very cold. There's nothing that links to real life.

Tokyo is like a huge futuristic pinball machine. It's like a bubble with two lost creatures inside a pinball machine that doesn't care about them. The other thing is, it's very colorful.

I don't want to give any lines to anybody because otherwise they come out like bricks from their mouths. The important thing is the meaning of the scene, not the words you use, and I prefer that you find your own words to express the scene.

I think you direct a movie just to express your own self.

You feel touched by a movie in a good or bad way or you have a strong reaction to something that's totally artificial, to an imitation of life. But that imitation of life that you see on the screen can affect you almost as if it was real.

Societies have progressed much more during times of peace than during wars.

Make a movie that you can be proud of.
