Free from passion and desire, you have stripped the thorns from the stem.

When ignorant people see someone who is dead, they are disgusted and horrified, even thought they too will be dead some day. I thought to myself: I don't want to be like the ignorant people. After then, I couldn't feel the usual intoxication with life anymore.

There is no fire like passion: there is no evil and hatred.

There are two obstacles to enlightenment: 1. Thinking you know. 2 Thinking you don't know.

Seeing the similarity to oneself, one should not use violence or have it used.

If they are neither traceable in the Discourses nor verifiable by the Discipline, one must conclude thus: 'Certainly, this is not the Blessed One's utterance; this has been misunderstood by that bhikkhu - or by that community, or by those elders, or by that elder.' In that way, bhikkhus, you should reject it.
