It is easy to see the faults of others... it is hard to see our own.

One of his students asked Buddha, "Are you the Messiah?" "No," answered Buddha. "Then are you a healer?" "No," Buddha replied. "Then are you a teacher?" the student persisted. "No, I am not a teacher." "Then what are you?" asked the student exasperated. "I am awake," Buddha replied.

The calmed say that what is well-spoken is best; second, that one should say what is right, not unrighteous; third, what's pleasing, not displeasing; fourth, what is true, not false.

The world is afflicted by death and decay. But the wise do not grieve, having realized the nature of the world.

With his mind free from the inflow of thoughts and from restlessness, by abandoning both good and evil, an alert man knows no fear.

Do not judge yourself harshly. Without mercy for ourselves we cannot love the world.

Like a fine flower, beautiful to look at but without scent, fine words are fruitless in a man who does not act in accordance with them.
