There are times I wish I were invisible. Which is silly, since I do everything I can to stand out.
Gena ShowalterYou again,โ she said, and she did not sound happy. โI know,โ the warrior replied with a heartfelt sigh. โYouโre so lucky to see me twice in one day. Youโre honored by my presence, yada, yada, heard it all before. Letโs just move on, shall we. I donโt handle fawning very well.
Gena ShowalterHe turned, throwing over hi shoulder, โAnd if he growls at you, even once, heโs out. He looks wild.โ I am, Riley snapped inside her head. Do not laugh, she thought to herself. Her dad paused at the door. โWhere does it stay while youโre at school?โ It. Nice. โOutside.โ โYou could be inviting flees into our home, Mary Ann.โ No. Laughing. โHeโs clean, Dad. I swear. But if I spot a single little bug, Iโll bathe him.โ That could prove interesting, Riley said.
Gena ShowalterPeople stared. Maybe because they were giants compared to everyone else, both in height and muscle mass. Maybe because of the telltale bulge of weapons at their waist. Or maybe because William opened a bag of Doritos and ate while he shopped. Hard to tell.
Gena ShowalterSometimes, the loneliness probably got to be too much and anyone seemed better than no one.
Gena ShowalterGive me the effing phone, Strider grumbled, opening his palm and waving his fingers. Effing? William laughed with genuine amusement. You ever realize how polite you get when you're hammered? And you know what they say. A man's true charactor is revealed when he's toasted. So you gotta face facts, man. You're a closet gentlmen. Loser! The heck I am! Even Paris laughed at that.
