Murdering the innocent to advance an ideology is wrong every time everywhere

I've got God's shoulder to cry on. And I cry a lot. I do a lot of crying in this job. I'll bet I've shed more tears than you can count, as president.

The U.S. liberated Iraq from a tyrant. I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude, and I believe most Iraqis express that. I mean, the people understand that we've endured great sacrifice to help them. That's the problem here in America. They wonder whether or not there is a gratitude level that's significant enough in Iraq.

When I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible.

We really don't need the United Nations approval to act. When it comes to our security, we do not need anyones permission.

As Americans, we want peace - we work and sacrifice for peace. But there can be no peace if our security depends on the will and whims of a ruthless and aggressive dictator. I'm not willing to stake one American life on trusting Saddam Hussein.

The greatest power of freedom is to overcome hatred and violence, and turn the creative gifts of men and women to the pursuits of peace.
