We come before God to pray for the missing and the dead, and for those who loved them... Our purpose as a nation is firm, yet our wounds as a people are recent and unhealed and lead us to pray... This world he created is of moral design. Grief and tragedy and hatred are only for a time. Goodness, remembrance, and love have no end, and the Lord of life holds all who die and all who mourn... Neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities, nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth can separate us from God's love.

And I, unfortunately, have been to too many disasters as president.

Leadership to me means duty, honor, country. It means character, and it means listening from time to time.

We have a strong and vital role to play in Iraq, and we certainly cannot leave a vacuum for the insurgents to take over. We are engaged in a conflict from which America cannot afford to cut and run. We must be steadfast in this endeavor, upon which depends not only our future but that of the entire modern world.

I will always stand firm to protect the sanctity of marriage. I believe it is important to work with people to find common ground on difficult issues.

In the face of all this evil, we remain strong and united, 'One Nation Under God.'

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world, and no one will keep that light from shining.
