Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.

Though the academic authorities are actually proud of conducting everything by means of Examinations, they seldom indulge in what religious people used to descibe as Self-Examination. The consequence is that the modern State has educated its citizens in a series of ephemeral fads.

All good men are international. Nearly all bad men are cosmopolitan. If we are to be international we must be national.

Criticism is only words about words, and of what use are words about such words as these?

For fear of the newspapers politicians are dull, and at last they are too dull even for the newspapers.

All true friendliness begins with fire and food and drink and the recognition of rain or frost.

...but this is the real objection to that torrent of modern talk about treating crime as disease, about making prison merely a hygienic environment like a hospital, of healing sin by slow scientific methods. The fallacy of the whole thing is that evil is a matter of active choice whereas disease is not.
