Laughter is day, and sobriety is night; a smile is the twilight that hovers gently between both, more bewitching than either.

Go on your knees before God. Bring all your idols; bring self-will, and pride, and every evil lust before Him, and give them up. Devote yourself, heart and soul, to His will; and see if you do not "know of the doctrine.

So we fall asleep in Jesus. We have played long enough at the games of life, and at last we feel the approach of death. We are tired out, and we lay our heads back on the bosom of Christ, and quietly fall asleep.

He that does not know how wisely to meddle with public affairs in preaching the gospel, does not know how to preach the gospel.

Speak of the appetite for drink; or of a bon-vivant's relish for dinner! What are these mere animal throes and ragings compared with those fantasies of taste, of those yearning of the imagination, of those insatiable appetites of intellect, which bewilder a student in a great bookseller's temptation-hall.

There is always work, and tools to work withal, for those, who will.

The greatest architect and the one most needed is hope.
