We have to tackle the plague of gun violence.

The first years of life are not just important; they are more crucial to shaping children than any other time. Even before they speak, children are extremely sensitive to the messages adults send them.

I would hope that the Senate would do its job and confirm the nominee that President [Barack] Obama has sent to them. That's the way the Constitution fundamentally should operate. The president nominates, and then the Senate advises and consents, or not, but they go forward with the process.

While there are few problems in today's world that the United States can solve alone, there are even fewer that can be solved without the United States.

We celebrate our diversity, we lift people up, and we make America even greater.

We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own ... in order to create this common ground.
