If military action in Iraq is launched without a new U.N. resolution, Canada will not participate.

Some information has to remain in the privy of the office of the Prime Minister and the ministers for the proper administration of government.

Ten years ago, in the aftermath of the referendum in Quebec, the very existence of Canada was on the line... I had a responsibility to ensure that Canada never again came close to the precipice.

I was stricken by news and television pictures coming from the United States this morning. It is impossible to fully comprehend the evil that would have conjured up such a cowardly and depraved assault upon thousands of innocent people. There can be no cause or grievance that could ever justify such unspeakable violence. Indeed, such an attack is an assault not only on the targets but an offense against the freedom and rights of all civilized nations.

Good intentions are not an excuse for maladministration of this magnitude.

But I accepted that because God gave me other qualities and I’m grateful.

You have to look at history as an evolution of society.
