Infatuation.First Love.Lust.My passion can be explained away. But this is sure: Whatever she touches, she reveals
Jeanette WintersonThere is still a popular fantasy, long since disproved by both psychoanalysis and science, and never believed by any poet or mystic, that it is possible to have a thought without a feeling. It isnโt. When we are objective we are subjective too. When we are neutral we are involved. When we say โI thinkโ we donโt leave our emotions outside the door. To tell someone not to be emotional is to tell them to be dead.
Jeanette WintersonI believe in fiction and the power of stories because that way we speak in tongues. We are not silenced. All of us, when in deep trauma, find we hesitate, we stammer; there are long pauses in our speech. The thing is stuck. We get our language back through the language of others. We can turn to the poem. We can open the book. Somebody has been there for us and deep-dived the words.
