Can you imagine what it would be like to know that your life was just going to be a series of days that were all the same, that were do-overs?

What we all want, really, is to be loved. That craving drives our worst behavior.

I tell you this as a cautionary tale: beware of getting what you want. It's bound to disappoint you.

There are some things we do because we convince ourselves it would be better for everyone involved. We tell ourselves that it's the right thing to do, the altruistic thing to do. It's far easier than telling ourselves the truth.

The reason I am still sitting at Josef's kitchen table is the same reason traffic slows after a car wreck- you want to see the damage; you can't let yourself pass without that mental snapshot. We are drawn to horror even as we recoil from it.

There was a fine line between love and hate you heard that cliche all the time. But no one told you that the moment you crossed it would be the one you least expected. You'd fall in love and crack open a secret door to let your soul mate in. You just never expected such closeness one day to feel like an intrusion.

Just because you didn't speak the facts out loud didn't erase their existence. Silence was just a quieter way to lie.
