When you're animating a music video, you have to animate to some set music. You're somewhat restricted by that, but you're also inspired by that. The animation becomes secondary if you're animating to a music video. Either way, it's important. Music has really helped my animation, that's for sure.

Cartoonists are untrained artists, while illustrators are more trained.

I find it very hard to sit down and create an idea or especially a new character on command. Usually my characters evolve by accident out of some story context.

I don't really know what the average person thinks about animation. I think the average person thinks that it's made by cartoonists - and it used to be. When people think of The Simpsons, they think of Matt Groening. They don't think of whoever the 200 writers are.

Kids cannot follow stories. They don't know what the hell is going on in a cartoon. They like to see funny visual things happening.

There's tons of people with talent; it's the system that's all screwed up.

I think we are destroying the minds of America and that has been one of my lifelong ambitions.
